For our February's virtue, "understanding" we read,
Ask me how this girl was different from the rest of the students....
Ask me why is she taking her necklace off         This boy understood her and
asked her to play with him
What is she thinking...
Ask me how we need to understand each other as
we are all special

We had a visitor. Mrs. Tripathy work with us and show us some journal writing techniques.
What do we do first... write our name.
What do we do next... draw a picture.
What do we do then... write about our picture!
Draw lines for each word.
What do we do last... sound out the words we know
Knee to knee sharing our story before we started to write.
Sharing our story with a friend after we finished

We read,     Ask me about this book...
How I understand that we can do certain things when we are small
and other things when we are only big

Ask me to tell you one that I can do..
which I could not do when I was a baby

We did an experiment to understand Density
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IcWwUH-Wj4

Ask me what density means... it means thickness.
 What ingredients did we use?
Ask me to explain what happened at each step.

Point to the First..... 1..2..3..4..5..6

We squeezed and poured the honey in the jar. Ask me if the honey was thick or thin
We poured the milk in the jar.

We squeezed the dish soap in the jar

We dropped the blue water in the jar.

We poured the oil in the jar.
What can we observe about the oil... there are bubbles on top.
We dropped in the red rubbing alcohol. Kindergarten scientists were in AWE!
Ask me which is more dense, honey or milk?
Ask me how I know... (the honey stays on the bottom)

Which is more dense, soap or water?
Ask me how I know... (the water stays on top of the soap)

 Ask me to tell you....

Today we also learned that scientists make mistakes.... and make other discoveries...
We did another experiment
one-1           two-2             four-4
Ask me how much sugar in each cup
We added hot water to the sugar..  Ask me what happened?
                                 The sugar..... dissolved.....
We added food colouring... and tried making a rainbow....  without mixing colours...
OOPs! it didnt work... Zac said I wonder if we mix all colours together

So we mixed all three and made black colour...
Our new discovery

Mathew said, "Put oil" Aeris said add the soap...

Look what happened. Ask me to explain.....

Mason said, "Add green" . We added green colour on top. then we added milk too
We observed, it made bubbles, the colours were separating....

All the Kindergarten students said, "Lets mix it all..."
We mixed it all and left it......  We still could see 2 portions
We wonder what will we see on Monday?
Think and make a prediction...... Hold on to your thoughts to share..

We watered our garden to make sure it was damp and moist....... to survive the weekend!   Ask me what is damp......

Today Mason was so excited to share that he saw a baby shark being fed at 'Big Al's"
   wow!

Calgary Public Library Cards!
Coming home today are FREE Calgary Public Library Cards!
Free custom cards are being distributed to all students and school staff within the Calgary Board of Education as part of the Calgary Public Library’s pledge to remove barriers to literacy.

“The path to literacy begins before a child reaches five years of age,” said Bill Ptacek, Calgary Public Library CEO, “and sets the stage for a strong future. By making Library cards free to all Calgarians, we’re challenging parents to model the reading habit to their children by picking up their own free Library cards and getting families reading together.”

Visit calgarylibrary.ca to register your card today! Or visit any Calgary Public Library locations near you.

    Thanks,
                                          Mrs. Malik
